• Motorland Car Megastore Scrutinise Service History

  We bought a Golf TDi for £6400 and prior to the transaction asked if there was service history for the vehicle - a scurrying to the office and upon return "YES, there's loads of service history" - but we were not actually shown the service book. Further study of the service book revealed that the cam belt had never been changed - the vehicle was at 66,000 miles and the service interval (approved by VW dealers) is 60,000. I wrote to the owner. No reply, but we did receive a phone call - conversations are ambiguous at best and in the end he agreed to pay, but no cheque arrived. Two weeks later I called again and he agreed to pay us £150. The end result is that in spite of providing proof that the VW cost of changing the belt at £465 and our own mechanics invoice of £295, they still only gave us a cheque for £150 as a contribution. This took, 2 months, 2 letters, 5 emails and 3 telephone calls to accomplish! We shall never darken their door again!
